Most if not all private companies commission various research programs to gauge the level of satisfaction perceived by their customers in terms of product and service offering.

This does not only help such companies to improve their service levels but also to plan how to modify their product and service offerings and which delivery channels to use to improve the overall customer experience.

The South African national, provincial and local governments do not have any direct instrument to use in order to measure the delivery of service by civil servants, public institutions and the entire government machinery. The Public Satisfaction Index ™ is a tool that helps all three spheres of government in an attempt to fulfill their constitutional and moral obligation of delivering acceptable levels of service to the South African community.
